November 22 On Mobile Web Development — Develop mobile widgets with Yahoo! BlueprintFonte: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/CEnriqueOrtizWeblog/~3/v-OGyeyKIHI/
I’ve written an article/tutorial on mobile web/widget development using Yahoo! Blueprint; see Develop mobile widgets with Yahoo! Blueprint (IBM developerWorks). The article shows how to develop a Weather widget using the Blueprint XML markup and infrastructure, PHP for server integration, and the consumption of Yahoo! services on the web.

ceo REVIEW: INTERNET EXPLORER Mobile 6 for Windows Mobile - VGA screenshots!Fonte: http://gadgetmix.com/index/?p=1237 Yesterday, we posted about the preview of the Internet Explorer mobile 6 which is based on the desktop version of the Internet Explorer 6. Unfortunately, we could only test it via Device emulator. We managed to test it on the real device. Here is the review of it. Please note that all the screenshots are in VGA resolution (640 x 480)
The browser has two modes: desktop and mobile. This basically tells the other sites that you are using a mobile device or you can set the browser to Desktop mode, which will tell the other sites that you are using IE 6. If you type in anything in the above box, it will live search it and display you the results. Odd that it uses the mobile version of it even in the Desktop mode
Zoom feature You would say that the zoom feature is also there in the IE mobile included in the Windows Mobile 6.1 devices. But wait, this is a desktop-class IE. Remember? It displays pages accurately. GadgetMix.com is a fairly complex website and it displayed perfectly!
Sadly, it takes a while to get to page zoomed out. Even on a powerful device like HTC TOUCH DIAMOND
When you have Zoomed out (menu>Zoom out), you can just tap the portion you want to zoom into.
And the youtube works inside the pages as well. It is slow, but it works. I’m sure this will improve in the future builds. Other nice things I really liked When you open Gmail, it takes you to the Desktop version of gmail!
But, we didn’t remain happy for a long time. See following screenshot
As soon as I clicked on 'sent items', it showed me this error One of the nice touches of new IE is the ability to auto-complete the URL
Quirks:
But still, it is a BIG initiative by the Microsoft to develop a desktop class web browser. ASUS introduces the world fastest PDA phone - ASUS P565Fonte: http://gadgetmix.com/index/?p=1257 ASUS P565, a business PDA phone that boasts an 800 MHz processor—the fastest in the world at the time of this announcement. Featuring ASUS’ latest touch-driven user interface—Glide—the stylish, leather-accented P565 delivers graphics and system performance beyond anything else on the market at present scores almost two times that of competing products in its class. This enables the P565 to glide through resource-intensive tasks effortlessly and to handle heavy multitasking exceptionally well—making it ideal for businesspeople who demand uncompromising performance and maximum speed from their productivity tools.
Rounding off its impressive feature set is a 2.8″ touchscreen running at a high resolution of 480 x 640 pixels, delivering an unprecedented degree of clarity that does wonders for both personal photographs and spreadsheets. Talk about being powerful! The 800mhz clearly blows away all the Windows mobile and other phones. No phone has ever come with so powerful processor till date. It comes with 256MB ROM/128MB RAM,1300maH battery, microSD slot and SiRF Star III GPS too. HTC TOUCH HD review - We love it, its the best windows mobile phone ever!Fonte: http://gadgetmix.com/index/?p=1306 by harvsingh I’ve been waiting for such device from since the original iPhone came out. Big display, easy to use interface, powerful processor, tons of program memory, those are some of the qualities I was looking in a true iPhone contender. After a lot of wait, well, it is finally here! THE HTC TOUCH HD Recipe: Take a HTC touch Diamond, put in a 3.8″ display, remove D-Pad, add a 3.5mm headphone jack and you will have the HTC TOUCH HD! By it’s looks, one would assume that it is just another iPhone-wannabe, but that is where the story ends. The HTC TOUCH HD is the first truly amazing muscle phone containing massive 3.8″ display having a very high WVGA resolution (800 x 480). Unboxing Box Contents
All the accessories are same as the it’s sibling HTC Diamond except for the 3.5mm headphone jack which now supports direct plugging of your normal headphones without use of converter. Design and looks The HTC TOUCH HD has rounded corners and remarkably polished looks. It follow the minimalistic approach. The front of the device is mostly covered with glass and thus attracting fingerprints. At the back, it has a rubber finish which provides a firm grip to the device. Also, as it does not attract finger prints due to it. You will also find the 5MP camera here. There is no flash. Display The HTC TOUCH HD has a BIG 3.8″ display. When was the last time you saw such a big display on a mobile device. Perhaps 5 years back on those QVGA 3.8″ screen iPAQs. So what has changed then? It comes with a WVGA 800 x 480 resolution, which promises great internet experience as compared to the normal QVGA devices in the market. The best part about the display is that you don’t have to press the display hard to register a tap. A little touch on the screen makes the device register the tap, which brings the sensitivity to whole new level for Windows Mobile devices. Buttons On the top, you will find the power button. Below the display, you will find four touch sensitive buttons(answer, end, Home and Back key), which can be felt by haptic feedback (you can disable it too). There is no D-Pad. So, you may find difficulty in navigating the device if you have just bought the device. After you get used to the design, you won’t have any problems navigating. On the left side, you will find the usual volume buttons. Stylus Just like HTC Touch Diamond, the stylus resides in the lower right corner of the device. The magnet holds the stylus in it’s place, again just like Touch Diamond. The stylus is non-telescopic, which is a nice thing as I’ve never been a fond of telescopic stylus. The evil reset hole HTC has also carried the genes of evil reset hole which is hidden behind the battery cover. So, everytime your phone gets hanged due to some reason, you will have to remove the battery cover just to reset it. The micro-SD slot is also not accessible directly from the sides of the device. You again have to remove the battery cover to access it. If you don’t change your micro-SD cards frequently, then it won’t bother you much Software The HTC Touch Diamond runs Windows Mobile 6.1. HTC has made a lot of enhancements to the usual interface to make the user experience better. The popular TouchFlo 3D has been borrowed from the HTC Diamond and it really shines on the massive display. Here are few screenshots of the TouchFlo 3D interface of the HTC Touch HD. 1) Home: Beautiful home screen with a big clock. Flipping your finger up will make the clock small and it will provide room to display more appointments. 2) People: This contains the list of quick dial numbers with big pictures. Clicking the contact opens it in the contact application providing you the option to send an SMS/EMAIL or call them. 3) Messaging: I find this tab the coolest to show-off the TouchFlo 3D. Dragging your finger up takes you to the next message while dragging your finger down takes you to the previous message. The words slither away! 4) Mail: Similar to the messaging tab. It shows email instead of SMS 5) Internet: It has a big button to launch the Opera Browser. Below it reside the bookmarks you’ve done in the Opera Browser 6) Stock: This is a new tab that was not there in HTC Diamond. It shows latest stock prices. 7) Photos and Video: This tab shows photos and videos stored on your device. You also get access to the still camera and video camera from here.
9) Music: You can flick through the albums by swiping your finger up or down. It shows album art too. 10) Settings and programs: Settings let you do basic modifications to the TouchFlo 3D. Unlike the TouchFlo in diamond, you can also change the order of the tabs. Programs lets you define shortcuts to your favorite program. Unfortunately, the beauty is just skin deep. For example: If you click on any message in the TouchFlo’s SMS tab, you will to not-that-finger friendly messaging application. On the brighter side, HTC keyboards provide quite nice finger typing experience, again thanks to the big screen. On my Diamond, I still struggle to type on that keyboard. HTC has also put it the G-Sensor application, which was first seen in the HTC Touch Pro.
Sound and Video Quality It’s ability to take 3.5mm headphone jack is the immediate advantage over most of the Windows Mobile phones, which use ext-USB. This lets you use your favorite headphones with it. The sound quality is really nice! The WVGA screen of the touch HD is great for watching videos. Don’t get fooled by the word “HD”. It is not meant to play those HD WMV files. Signal Strength The TOUCH HD has very powerful GSM radio module which manages to pick up a nice signal. The sound quality at both ends (sender and receiver) was great. No calls were dropped. Like Diamond, the screen switches off when you are on a call. So, what is missing? Well, it does not support TV-out like Touch Pro, which may be a let down for some. The HTC TouchFlo 3D is a valiant effort by HTC to make the windows mobile friendly, but unfortunately, HTC cannot make the whole windows mobile interface finger friendly. But, the big 3.8″ display surprisingly made everything very finger friendly. Battery life It comes with a 1350mAh battery. It is adequate for the average Joe. Even a power user should be able to easily squeeze out one day of battery life with heavy use. With casual use, getting two days of battery life is no big deal too. Final Words Undoubtedly, it is the most advanced Windows Mobile handset I’ve ever used. The big, high-resolution display provides great internet experience thanks to the wonderful Opera Browser. TouchFlo 3D adds to it’s “wow factor”. The sensitivity of the screen is great; sound quality is great and has one of the best GSM modules I’ve come across in the windows mobile arena. — Pros:

"What Mac user would want a Windows Mobile Pocket PC, Smartphone, or Pocket PC Phone?" Our answer is always the same -- all of them! Macs and Windows Mobile devices are great at the same things, but most Mac users will never know it. Why? Because many software companies feel they can ignore the Mac market. They have for years and they'll keep right on doing it. They love to tell themselves that the Mac is only some small percentage of the market but what they fail to realize is that even 1% of the market is still tens of millions of users. And, these tens of millions of users are super-passionate about their computers. What better audience could developers of new hardware and software ask for? Yet, no Windows Mobile device will work with a Mac out-of-the-box. Think about it - the things that Windows Mobile Devices are great at, namely
are the very same tasks and activities that people love to use their Macs for! So, why shouldn't the two work together? We couldn't figure it out either. This, then, is the story of one more software company that didn't ignore the Mac community and, in fact, became a Mac software company. (A true "Switch" story, indeed.) We had been developing custom software for the Windows Mobile Device for quite a while. And, when we saw the Windows Mobile Devices that were to be released about a year ago, they excited us just as they excite you now. We were passionate about them, and we saw that other Windows Mobile Device users were passionate about their devices, too. We realized, though, that their inability to work with Macs was a big problem and set to work trying to figure out if something could be done. About halfway through our research, one of our engineers told us a friend had asked if there was any way he could sync his Windows Mobile Device with a Mac. At that moment, we knew we were on to something. Now you can synchronize your contacts, calendar, tasks, email and more between the Windows Mobile Device and Entourage/ iCal/ Address Book... Sprint Touch Pro / HTC Fuze / HTC TOUCH PRO - Massive reviewFonte: http://gadgetmix.com/index/?p=1308 The HTC Raphael is known by different names depending on the version and where in the world you bought it. Some of the names include the HTC TOUCH PRO the AT&T FUZE. The HTC Touch Pro is where I will be focusing my attention today . The Touch Pro is a much awaited upgrade to the HTC Diamond. The Touch Pro has fixed most of the complaints that people had with the original diamond. If you were to take a picture of the HTC Diamond and the HTC Touch Pro from the front you would see that they look almost identical. The real only change can be seen once you slide out the keyboard, or even flip the phone around and see that the camera that now adds a led flash next to the camera. You would also notice the huge thickness difference between as well. The next thing is that tells itself apart from the diamond the keyboard. It features a 57 button keyboard. HTC has dedicated an entire row to numbers only. On previous devices, you had to either hit some type of shift/fn button to bring up the numbers. The keyboard also features a few dedicated shortcut buttons. The icons differ on each device but in general, you get one for a new text or mms message as-well-as a mail inbox button. There are a couple of other shortcuts that require you to hit the fn button because they share a button with another icon, those include a opera mobile button and a communication manager that allows access to Bluetooth ,WiFi and phone profiles. The keyboard has a very nice feel to it. Not too hard or too spongy. All the buttons are flush and don’t stick out. I had no problem typing long emails or text messages. There are ‘only’ 8 buttons on the device. Some of the buttons that you are used to are no longer there such as the ok button. On the front, there is an end button and a call/answer button. On top row there is a home button and a back button. On the left side of the device, there are volume buttons and on the top, you can find the power button. The power button serves 2 purposes. The obvious turning off the device and also as to turn off the backlight. The last one is the D-Pad or D-circle. It has two functions: it can function as a normal D-Pad as-well-as be used as a jog wheel in certain applications.
The Touch Pro has a 3.2 mega pixel auto focus camera as-well-as a video camera that can produce video at 4 resolutions
You also have an option to choose the format you want it to be in H.263, 3GPP2, MPEG4. Another difference between the different versions of the pro is the back portion of the device. Most of them have the same back has the Diamond. But some also have a flush smooth back.
Stylus The stylus is non-telescopic, just like HTC Diamond. I prefer non-telescopic ones over telescopic ones. The stylus is held into the unit by small magnet.
Battery life impressions Ok so back to those keywords I mentioned earlier ‘crappy” I think HTC went the cheap route and ordered smaller mAh batteries to save a little money. The battery performance on a stock ROM (meaning that no modifications have been made) is really crappy. In my personal experience I’m getting less than a work day out of the battery (yes, you can flash or modify your device will discuss this later) that is with push email (push email is on call email so your emails are in real time) and a few texts and web browsing. “Pathetic” can also be a choice of words do to the amount of battery life you get from the device you could argue it’s a new battery. I also mentioned “reasonable” because of the amount of stuff that can be done with this device and its specs. Let’s get this straight, these are not the old school pocket pc device that we started off with that only featured GPRS and in some cases, EDGE. The processor have come a long way too. We were running those OMAP 200mhz processors on the standard QVGA screens(240×320). The amount of ram that was there in those devices was pathetic too by today’s standards. But all these types of features require a lot of juice to run. For me personally I have been getting pretty good battery life after a couple of weeks. But this is because of some tweaks and hack as well as some custom ROMs that I have put on my device. I installed all the known battery performance tweaks as-well-as having the EDVO(US form of 3G data) connection turn-off itself after a certain amount of time. Battery life can be improved with these various tweaks and more. I just wish HTC put a bigger battery into this great device. User interface Home

GPS The device also has a built in GPS as-well-as A-GPS. A-GPS is a feature that pulls cell-tower information to give you a faster lock on your location. There isn’t really much to say on it since there are some bugs and problems with it. One for example is once you lock on; there is a stutter with tracking. Sometime you lose the signal and sometimes it has problems keeping up with your location. Overall impressions Sponsor love: You can add protection to your HTC Touch pro/fuze by using these wonderfully stiched cases from PDAir. They come in 2 styles: book-type and flip-type

November 10 Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Panels working on HTC Touch HD!Fonte: http://gadgetmix.com/index/?p=1210 First we had news of Touch HD’s TouchFlo3D working on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 and now someone has been able to run Xperia’s panels on the HTC Touch HD. This is a great news for the HTC Touch HD folks as now, they too can have the best of both worlds just like Xperia X1.
According to harvsingh(at xda-devs), who has made this possible says that he has found the ‘frontend’ a lot better than the TouchFlo3D interface. He has also posted a proof-of-concept video. You can see the video at this link November 09 Changing your MDC IconFonte: http://msmvps.com/blogs/nunoluz/archive/2008/07/02/changing-you-mdc-icon.aspx This blog post has two objectives: welcoming J Allard as Chief Experience Officer and Chief Technology Officer, Entertainment and Devices Division, and showing you how to change your device’s icon at WMDC. Well here’s what you need:
The first step will be of course choosing the image you would like to appear as soon as you connect your device to your PC. As an example I used the carismatic J Allard. Please take in account that the Icon you will be creating will have pre-defined sizes like 255x255 (WMDC Image), and 64x64/32x32/16/16 wich are the icons that will appear in Windows Explorer. Next you will have to create a new CAB:
Now just save the file and copy it to a Windows Mobile device. Preferably a device that will be connected for the first time to ou PC, otherwise you will have to uninstall the previous information that was synced previously. To do so you must have your device connected and go to your Control Panel, System, and select Device Management. Find the Mobile devices tree and expand it. Next right click your device and uninstall it. Afterwards restart both you PC and your device, and connect them again. Notice: doing this will delete the current partnership The final result is in this file that you can download and install in your device. I hope you liked this tutorial, and let me know what you used for your WMDC Icon, and share some screenshots :) November 08 Sobrecarga pode afetar redes 3GFonte: http://www.adnews.com.br/lerrss.php?id=78856 A rápida adesão à tecnologia 3G pode sobrecarregar as redes nos próximos anos. Task2Gather REVIEW - manage your tasks, share your tasksFonte: http://gadgetmix.com/index/?p=1146 by Kamal DS Task2Gather is an online application, which lets you manage the tasks online. It is available for free for your Desktop and also for Windows Mobile and iPhone. Imagine your wife or girlfriend updating the list of items to be purchased at home while you are out. Your windows mobile device or iPhone will automatically display the updated list. Priceless!
Lets see how the first screen of the Task2Gather looks. If you have already registered online, then you can easily log yourself in. Otherwise, you can click on “have no account?” and register yourself on the device itself. This is really nice considering the fact that many windows mobile applications require you to go to the product’s website on the Desktop to register yourself. Please note that the screenshots were taken off my HTC Diamond and thus had to be scaled down as they looked very big (480 x 640)
After the success of the Touch friendly devices by HTC, it has become mandatory for every application to be very finger friendly. Nobody is now interested in taking the stylus out just to write few words or characters. People at VITO (who have made this application) have well understood this fact. The Task2Gather application is very finger friendly. After you’ve successfully logged in, you will be presented with a list of your projects, if you have already created them on the desktop or on your other devices. Clicking on any of the projects would enlist the tasks that the project may contain.
You can click on the “+” icon on the top right corner of the screen to create a new task. Just assign the task some title and click on the “save” button to save it. At the same time, the task can be viewed online too! Pretty slick. Changing between windows is very sleek and fluid. No jitters on the VGA display of my diamond. I absolutely love it’s interface.
Clicking on the task would reveal it’s usual details. Here, you can share the task with someone else using Task2Gather. Just mention his email address and voila! You are done. You can even assign a deadline to the task. Not only that, you can also add comments to the task, if you wish to.
Folks at VITO have created a very nice and functional date picker. One flaw I found is the inability to create tasks while I’m not online. In reality, you cannot do anything with the Task2Gather when you are not online. If you are not logged in, you cannot even see the tasks which are due. I am very sure that VITO would address this problem in the upcoming versions.
You can also create subtasks. Creating subtasks is similar to the way one creates normal tasks. Just tap on the task and select “subtasks” from the top right corner of the applications. It follows a hierarchical method of arranging tasks, which is nice way to divide the jobs and tasks of the company based on the complexity and nature of the job.
Desktop version: As mentioned earlier in this review, the desktop version is absolutely free. You can do everything you can do in the Windows Mobile versions and iPhone versions. Click on following screenshot to see it’s larger view Task2Gather is a great application. I’ve made quite a few desktop applications in the past and I must say that it is a very nicely coded application. Everything is very swift and intuitive. Pros:
Cons:

November 07 HTC hits new record one-month revenue of $488 million in OctoberFonte: http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/WmPowerUser/~3/445480689/ HTC is doing well, really, really well. In their monthly update they have just announced a new record for single month revenue of nearly 1/2 billion dollars, thanks in the main due to the success of the new Touch Diamond/Pro series of smartphones. The $488 million revenue is 10% higher than its previous record in November 2007 when it managed to make $441 million in revenue. Compared to October 2007 the result is 22.4% higher. For the year so far HTC has grown revenue 30.8% compared to the same 10 months last year, to a dazzling $3.7 billion. HTC predicts the good times will continue, and expects full year revenue to exceed $4.5 billion for the first time, up nearly 30% on the previous year. According to Canalys HTC has grown its own-brand device sales 171% YoY in Q3 2008, making it the 4th largest smartphone maker. This excludes the ODM work it does for Sony Ericsson with the Xperia and Palm with the Palm Treo Pro. HTC has gone on record in the past that it did not see any impact from the success of the iPhone 3G. Interestingly, if one had invested in HTC 5 years ago, one would be nearly twice as well off as if one invested in Google, despite the economic turmoil at the moment (This is not investment advice).
